Ranching Together

People are at the heart of Lonesome Quail. Longtime team members have worked this land alongside our family for years. Kids grow up side by side with livestock. Spouses, siblings, and close friends all have a role in the rhythm of ranch life.

Our Managing Director, Matt Grider, came into the place through marriage, learned construction on the land, and built his life into the fabric of the ranch.

From clearing land with bulldozers to shipping cattle, his story is one of learning by doing and being a faithful steward of what we've all been given.

How We Operate

Cattle transactions at Lonesome Quail reflect the same values that guide everything else we do—clarity, integrity, and respect for everyone involved. Our team shows up in person when cattle are loaded, and payment is made on the spot. It’s a process built on trust, designed to move quickly and fairly.

We work across weight classes and grades, connecting quality cattle to the right feed yards through long-standing relationships. Whether the sale is for immediate delivery or part of a forward contract, we bring experience and a steady hand to everything we do.

Licensed, bonded, and deeply connected to the region, our brokers carry out each deal with care—ensuring both buyers and sellers walk away with confidence.

Culture Built Over Time

Covey's Lonesome Quail ranch operates on relationships — between generations, between families, between those who work the land and those who simply love being on it. Shared labor builds trust, and commitment to our values  to each other keeps that trust alive.

Culture through time spent side by side, working together and playing together.
